York Festival of Ideas 2024 unleashes the power
York Festival of Ideas returns from 1 to 14 June with a programme of over 200 mostly free events on the theme of ‘The Power Of…’.
From reimagining wealth to the power of good business, and the future-proof career to solar city York, the programme includes a diverse range of business-related events, both in-person and online.
Highlights include:
Reimagining Wealth to Support a More Equitable and Just Future, Friday 7 June, 11.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 3.30pm (in person)
Two interactive sessions, supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, provide an opportunity to reimagine the future of ‘wealth’. Key areas of focus will include community wealth building, the generation and distribution of wealth, ownership and assets, and an exploration of the ‘hidden wiring’ of economic and financial systems. How can we reimagine our resources and civic assets for public and common benefit, fit for the times we are in?
UK EV Charging Infrastructure: Ramping up rollout, Sunday 9 June, 11.30am to 12.30pm (in person)
At an event presented in partnership with the Institution of Engineering and Technology, David Trousdale, Technical Director of Transport Decarbonisation at WSP, will discuss electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The Power of Good Business, Monday 10 June, 11.45am to 1pm (in person)
An expert panel, including David Skaith, the first Mayor of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, will discuss the opportunities created by devolution and the power of good business. Presented in partnership with Aviva, speakers also include Germán Lorenzo, Asia-Pacific Director at the MONDRAGON Corporation.
Green Agreement: How to return to political climate consensus, Tuesday 11 June, 12.15pm to 1.30pm (online)
This event will address the question: How do we return to political climate consensus and retain public support for the transition to net zero? Speakers include David Powell, Senior Advocacy Manager at Climate Outreach; Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Chancellor of the University of York; Virginia Sentance, Director of Industrial Strategy and Clean Energy at Labour Together; and Ned Hammond, Head of Energy and Environment at Onward.
