Help York College raise funds for St Leonards Hospice and The Island charities
York College was a late entry (from the reserve list with one and half weeks’ notice) into the York Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 14th July 2025. Despite never entering the event before or even being in a boat together (we had a dry practice on chairs in a class room 😊) we won our first race and came second in the following two races and overall came 25th out of 36 teams!
We are raising funds for our charities of the year (chosen by staff and students) St Leonards Hospice and The Island.
St Leonard’s Hospice is an independent charity that provides care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their families and carers, when they need it most. They offer an in-patient unit, Sunflower Centre and Hospice@Home service. Every penny donated will help St Leonard’s Hospice to ensure families can continue to get the support they need during their most difficult times.
The Island is a charity in York providing support for vulnerable children and young people; building confidence, self-esteem and unlocking potential through positive mentoring relationships and unique activities and programmes. They support some of our most disadvantaged, vulnerable and isolated children and young people to realise their potential through positive mentoring relationships and activities.
