York Against Cancer is a small independent cancer charity; our 3 keys areas of funding include cancer care, research and awareness. Our aim is to support cancer patients, their family and friends, we do this by providing practical and emotional support in the York, North and East Yorkshire area.
Our care services include practical help with transport to radiotherapy and rapid diagnostic appointments and we offer FREE respite breaks to families in either a seaside or countryside setting for a few days. We also inform and educate the general public in how they can keep themselves healthy which can improve their chances of not getting cancer. Our research is specifically into bladder cancer which is undertaken at the Jack Birch Unit at the University of York, it has been described as ground-breaking and of international value, their findings and approaches are being applied to other cancer sites.
