Bradford academic set to address UN on nuclear disarmament

Dr Becky Alexis-Martin from the University of Bradford is set to speak at the United Nations in New York on nuclear disarmament in March.

The University of Bradford has also been formally registered as a supporting organisation of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Dr Alexis-Martin will also deliver a keynote speech at the 8th Young Pugwash Conference on 15 March at King’s College London – with the theme ‘Stepping back from the brink of nuclear war: fresh thinking on peace and disarmament.’

Dr Alexis-Martin, who previously addressed the UN in November 2023, said: “It is an honour to be once again addressing the UN and to represent the University of Bradford on the global stage. This event beings together policymakers, activists and scholars to discuss the future of nuclear disarmament and is a unique opportunity for students to engage with international experts, expand their knowledge, and contribute to meaningful dialogue on one of the most pressing global security issues of our time.”

The 3rd UN Third Meeting of States Parties (3MSP) to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) will take place from 3 to 7 March 2025 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, with both in-person and virtual participation options available.
