Gipsil: Supporting digital poverty
Gipsil are proud to become new members of the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce!
We are currently doing some work around supporting those digitally excluded within Leeds. It is not unusual for the people we support to have no WIFI at home, or any IT devices. Occasionally, people have no phone whatsoever, others may only own a non-digital phone. Digital poverty holds children back in terms of education, adults struggle to job search or fill out application forms, make medical appointments, college work becomes more challenging for those digitally excluded.
However, we have many examples of gifting laptops, tablets, and WIFI connectivity to people, where it has made a huge difference. Please see link here which gives examples of our work. We were recently visited by Tracy Brabin. (21) Post | LinkedIn
Gipsil get new client referrals all the time, and consequently require more IT equipment to donate, purely to keep up with demand.
So, we politely reach out to any “Chamber” members who are may wish to collaborate with us in our digital inclusion work. Ways to support those in digital poverty could include donating staff phones, laptops, tablets, when/if you upgrade IT devices? Some organisations make new equipment donations.
Every device makes a difference, and you will be helping to bridge the digital poverty gap in Leeds. We would love to have a no-obligation chat if you feel you may be in a position to offer some support. No matter what you can offer, be it a large or small donation, it will be a donation that could make a significant difference to someone’s life chances.
We will happily recognise all joint working on our social media sites, should you wish for this.
We thank you for taking the time to read this article and we look forward to hearing from you. There is a link to Gipsil’s wider work within the third sector here. Home – Gipsil
