Law firm knits 150 twiddle muffs for people in Yorkshire living with dementia in annual Christmas gift drive
Chadwick Lawrence Solicitors has donated over 300 gifts, including 150 twiddle muffs, as part of its annual festive gift drive in support of local care and healthcare units.
This marks the firm’s largest festive gift drive to date, with colleagues donating or hand-making gifts for people living with dementia, homeless and vulnerable individuals, children in hospital care and local families in need this Christmas.
St. George’s Crypt, Leeds Children’s Hospital and the Bradford Bulls Foundation, alongside a variety of local dementia units, are amongst this year’s chosen charities and causes.
Dementia-related causes are a key focus for Chadwick Lawrence. At the heart of the annual gift drive for dementia is the knitting of the twiddle muffs – a knitted hand muff with ribbons, beads, buttons and textures attached inside and out, designed to provide sensory stimulation and comfort for people with dementia.
The twiddle muffs are knitted by Chadwick Lawrence team members throughout the year, at a weekly ‘knit and natter’ session, in preparation for the December donation. Each of the 150 gifts being hand-delivered to care homes across the region during the festive season will include a twiddle muff.
The ‘knit and natter’ club is part of the firm’s wider efforts to support dementia-related causes. It has a dementia committee made up of 32 volunteers from various offices and levels of seniority who coordinate annual fundraising efforts, chaired by associate Sue Preece.
Sue is Chadwick Lawrence’s Dementia Champion and serves as a Dementia Friends Ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society. She has devoted over 30 years to helping individuals and families navigate all areas of care, with a focus on dementia care for nearly 14 years.
Throughout the year, the firm’s dementia committee organises various events in support of Dementia Action Week, Carers Week, and other community efforts. Chadwick Lawrence supports care homes through providing egal guidance tailored to the needs of dementia patients, assisting with Court of Protection applications, mental capacity assessments, and powers of attorney.
The firm’s wider gift drive efforts are spearheaded by several colleagues based at all eight of Chadwick Lawrence’s offices. 45 gifts were donated to the Bradford Bulls Foundation, alongside large volumes of personal hygiene items, backpacks, coats and shoes to St George’s Crypt for people in need this Christmas.
Charitable work is at the centre of Chadwick Lawrence’s people-focused ethos, with colleagues volunteering approximately 1,360 hours per year for a multitude of causes. In 2025, the firm has raised over £845 for Alzheimer’s Society.
