Final opportunity to have your say on car parking charges consultation

A review of car parking charges in Bishopthorpe Road, Micklegate, The Groves and East Parade/Heworth has entered its final phase with a series of face-to-face drop-in sessions.

A consultation has been taking place over the past few months after residents and business in all four of these areas initiated a challenge to parking charges through The Right to Challenge Parking Policies Statutory Guidance under the Traffic Management Act 2004. It followed the authority’s decision to increase charges for the local, council owned, car parking. Consultation via a paper and online survey closed on 27 February. The drop-in sessions are an extra opportunity for local people to give their thoughts in person.

The team from Arup, a consultancy firm who are conducting the independent review on behalf of the Council, will be on hand to listen to views from local people and businesses. All the responses will be recorded and included in the final report.

The details of the drop-in sessions are as follows:

  • Monday 23 March, Micklegate – 4.30 to 7pm in West offices foyer.
  • Tuesday 24 March, Heworth – 4.30 to 7pm at Tang Hall
  • Thursday 26 March, The Groves – 4.30 to 7pm at Door 84
  • Tuesday 31 March, Bishopthorpe Road – 5.30 to 8pm at Clements Hall

Councillor Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport, said: “Local people and businesses told us that they wanted some face-to-face consultation about this issue. This is an opportunity to give any final feedback to Arup, and I would encourage everyone affected to come to one of these sessions.”

On completion of the consultation, the Council will publish the independent review and details of when it will be considered. The outcome of the decision will be published via the council website.
