York families urged to reapply for free school meals

Families whose children receive free school lunches are being urged to reapply for the meals this term, following changes to the national scheme.

Everyone must reapply for their child or children before the start of the new school year in September.

City of York Council has sent information and application forms to schools across the city to share with parents and carers before the end of the summer term.

Cllr Bob Webb, City of York Council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “The new national changes mean that everyone must reapply for their free lunch. We know how important regular healthy meals are to school attendance, attainment and overall wellbeing, so we’re encouraging partners and families to spread the word about the need to reapply.

“It’s really important that families who are currently receiving free school lunches, or who think they could be eligible, get in touch with their child’s school and reapply as soon as possible.”
