Yorkshire CEO sets off on 2,000-mile solo cycling world record attempt around the perimeter of England
Martin Mansell, CEO of EnjoyTravel.com, has today (Thursday 25 June) set off on his ambitious solo attempt to cycle the full perimeter of England. The challenge will see him tackle 2,000 miles around the entire perimeter of England in an estimated 10-day ultra-endurance effort, averaging back-to-back 200-mile days across a mix of coastal, rural and urban terrain.
Starting from the Humber Bridge in East Yorkshire, Mansell will follow a continuous route around the country’s coastline and borders, passing through key landmarks including the east coast, Dover, Land’s End, the Severn Bridge, Chester, Carlisle, and the Northumberland coast before returning to Yorkshire to complete the loop.
The endurance attempt has been officially sanctioned by WUCA (World UltraCycling Association), the governing body and certification source for Guinness World Records for endurance cycling, and will see Mansell spend upwards of 16 hours per day on the road with very little rest.
The ride marks the final chapter for Mansell in a three-year series of endurance challenges and will be the biggest yet, pushing Martin to his limits as he tackles hills, coastlines, and demanding terrain across the country.
The challenge is expected to conclude on Sunday 5th July, with a final ride into the Yorkshire Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, marking the completion of the challenge at the The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease.
Martin Mansell, CEO of EnjoyTravel.com, said: “This is the biggest and most arduous challenge I’ve ever taken on and the culmination of a three-year series of charity endurance rides.
“The challenging terrain, unpredictable weather and sheer amount of miles – with little rest between stages – will make it an incredibly tough challenge, but I’m ready to go the distance in support of these important causes.
“Raising funds for The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease and Yorkshire Children’s Charity gives the ride real purpose, and I’m determined to help raise as much as possible for two incredible charities.”
The world record attempt to cycle the full 2,000-mile perimeter of England aims to raise £50,000 for two life-changing, Yorkshire-based charities.
- Rob Burrow Centre for MND through Leeds Hospitals Charity, providing expert care, research, and support for people living with MND.
- Yorkshire Children’s Charity, supporting children living with disability and hardship across the region with essential equipment and emergency resources.
A series of fundraising initiatives have supported the challenge, including a public sweepstake to predict Martin’s finishing time, alongside prize-led activities and events with backing from local businesses.
