A life in BBC News revealed in new lecture series

BBC News presenter Reeta Chakrabarti to welcome journalist Ben Brown for York St John University lecture on Thursday 2 March

With a career spanning over 30 years, the University’s Chancellor Reeta Chakrabarti will introduce a lecture entitled ‘From the frontline to the studio: A life in BBC News’. Reeta will be joined by fellow BBC News presenter Ben Brown, who will share his insights as one of the BBC’s longest-serving journalists.

As a frontline journalist and war correspondent, Ben has reported from over 40 countries worldwide and helped to bring several significant historical events to our screen including the fall of the Berlin Wall, 9/11, the Boxing Day Tsunami and the Rwandan genocide.

Reeta became York St John University’s Chancellor in 2019 and is the ceremonial head of the University: acting as chief ambassador, presiding over ceremonial functions and conferring degrees at our graduation ceremonies. This is the first in a series of annual Chancellor lectures to be held at York St John.

Professor Karen Bryan OBE, Vice Chancellor of York St John University said:

“We are delighted to be welcoming Reeta Chakrabarti back to York St John to introduce the inaugural Chancellor’s Lecture for the University. Understanding the world around us has never been more important, so we are looking forward to hearing about Ben Brown’s incredible BBC career and contribution to journalism. Reeta is a real champion of the power of education to transform lives and we are so pleased to recognise her commitment to York St John through the annual Chancellor’s Lecture.”

The lecture takes place in the University’s Creative Centre on Thursday 2 March at 4.30pm. This event is fully booked but can be viewed afterwards on the @YSJEvents YouTube channel. For more information please visit the University Events page.
