Illustrators support children’s charity with live portrait drawing at Henley Royal Regatta

On 7 July 2024, Chloe and Abigail Baldwin attended the Henley Royal Regatta where they illustrated portraits of patrons and regatta guests at a pavilion hosted by Copas Events to support Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

The pair are the dynamic duo behind Buttercrumble, the award-winning design and illustration studio based in Leeds. Among their design and visual notetaking services, they’ve drawn live portraits for thousands of people at events for various organisations, including John Lewis and Sea Salt Cornwall.

The Henley event marks another milestone in Buttercrumble’s relationship with the charity, which supports children and families with complex, lifelong conditions and the specialist nurses who care for them. The illustrations were a great opportunity to help raise funds and awareness for the charity and the incredible work they do.

Reflecting on how much it means to support a charity whose namesake inspired her own creative journey, Abigail Baldwin said, “We are honoured to support fundraising for the charity as huge fans of Roald Dahl’s stories and Sir Quentin Blake’s accompanying illustrations. They inspired us to get creative from a young age”.

Henley Royal Regatta, established in 1839, is the world’s best-known rowing regatta, taking place annually on the River Thames by the town of Henley-on-Thames. With an attendance of over 300,000 yearly, HRR draws a range of international visitors and members of the British Elite and the Royal Family.
