Join the conversation about new homes and area improvements in Walmgate and Fishergate
Residents of Walmgate and Fishergate are invited to drop-in sessions about the next steps to build 140 affordable, energy-efficient homes and improve local residential areas.
Walmgate
People living in Walmgate are invited to chat with members of the Council’s Housing Delivery Programme (HDP) and the design team including architects from Mikhail Riches. This conversation with residents and local businesses will review early work carried out in 2021 and inform the team about people’s priorities.
It will also help shape ideas about the design of about 40 new homes on the site of the former Willow House care home, and improvements to the south Walmgate area.
Please join the chat and refreshments on Thursday 18 July, 4-7pm at the corner of Walmgate and Navigation Road, under Huby Court, York YO1 JUD.
Fishergate
Clearance work is beginning at our Ordnance Lane site to make it ready to build 101 affordable homes there. All new homes will be built to Passivhaus standards and the historic Victorian ‘married quarters’ will be refurbished to be highly energy-efficient. All residents and neighbours of the site are invited to drop in to find out more at an information session.
At the event will be members of Rhodar, the contractor working on the preparation stage of the site, and members of City of York Council’s HDP team who are overseeing the work. There, the site plans will be shared and working practices on site such as hours, utilities and noise levels.
Please join the accessible drop-in session with refreshments on Tuesday 23 July, 5-8pm at Cycle Heaven on 31 Hospital Fields Road, York YO10 4FS.
Cllr Michael Pavlovic, Executive Member for Housing at City of York Council, said: “Walmgate is a historically sensitive site and a number of archaeological investigations and resident engagement sessions have been key to helping us better understand its history and shape its future. “At our Ordnance Lane site in Fishergate, the site is being prepared for building 101 affordable homes – all new ones will be Passivhaus-certified. They’re superbly-designed, tackle climate change and will give those most in need a home where they can thrive.
“It’s essential to deliver these 100% affordable homes and area improvements in partnership with local people: your thoughts and ideas are critical to our planning, so please come along!”
