New waiting room for York crematorium
Mourners and visitors to York Crematorium will have a second waiting room to use from this autumn. It will be more accessible and have toilet facilities.
Visitors may see workers, their vehicles and equipment on the site at Bishopthorpe, as the building and other maintenance work takes place.
No work will take place during services: they will continue uninterrupted. The work will start outside service times from Monday 1 July, and will finish in the autumn.
Local funeral directors have been notified.
Councillor Katie Lomas, Executive Member for Major Projects, Human Rights, Equality and Inclusion at City of York Council, said: “Regular maintenance and investment in the crematorium is key to delivering a good service for residents at a sad and sensitive time. I’m glad we’re able to offer an additional, new waiting area and look forward to it opening this autumn.”
