Prime Minister praises Huddersfield-based Accu’s £1million UK warehousing investment on HQ visit

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has praised precision component supplier Accu for its £1million investment in UK warehousing and drive towards achieving same-day despatch for many of its 500,000 components.

Huddersfield-based Accu – which employs over 100 people and supplies over 50% of the world’s top 100 manufacturers – recently relocated its warehouse operations to a new, 45,000-square-foot state-of-the-art warehouse and head office based in Honey, Huddersfield to fuel its next growth stage.

Mr Sunak visited Accu’s new global headquarters last Thursday (7 March), where he received a tour of the redeveloped former car manufacturing plant.

Accu CEO, Martin Ackroyd, said: “The Prime Minister was pleased to see how we have been able to take advantage of the 100% tax deductions on capital expenditure to help bring our new headquarters to life, as this has been a big focus of Make UK, of which Accu is a member.”

“He was impressed with our commitment to making many of our components available on same-day despatch and delivering at speed to engineers and innovators across the globe.”

Accu UK managing director, Alastair Morris, said: “The PM spent time speaking to our teams and our award-winning apprentices, and was impressed by our dedication to recruiting and upskilling a local workforce at our new global headquarters in Honley, Huddersfield.”

“We had some fun too, showing the Prime Minister how to pick and pack an order, and he was fascinated by our Micro Screws, getting to grips with them first-hand by picking some of our very smallest components.”

Mr Sunak also asked to speak to some of the firm’s apprentices, including Lily Smythe, who recently joined the company full-time and was awarded the Make UK regional Apprentice Endeavour award.

Ackroyd added: “Accu is a truly global business, but employing and nurturing a local workforce and, in turn, supporting our local economy, is hugely important to how we operate.

“That’s partly why we chose to move less than a mile from our current head office because we want to continue that commitment and put our business innovation and growth at the heart of Huddersfield.”
