Team GB showjumper riding high after top GCSE results

A talented Team GB showjumper is celebrating after receiving her GCSE results.

India, a student at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), has balanced her studies with competing in elite competitions including Horse of the Year, the Royal International Horse Show and the Pony Foxhunter Final. In 2026, she was selected to represent Great Britain in the under-18 Youth Nations Cup.

India started riding at the age of three. “However, I didn’t start competing in showjumping until I was 13,” she said. “My first event was a pony club showjumping event on my first pony called Zebra – where I won! I’m not from a particularly horsey background but my parents have always supported me.”

India is staying on at GSAL to study A-levels in government and politics, history and sociology. She aspires to become a professional rider and to represent Great Britain again in the near future.

Michael Hall, Principal at GSAL, said, “Representing her country in a sport that she’s clearly so passionate about is a phenomenal achievement. We are so proud of everything India has done, both in the classroom and the arena.”

GSAL’s GCSE Class of 2026 includes a Yorkshire cricketer, two junior golfers and a Bradford City footballer. Six students had particular cause for celebration after receiving 9s – the highest possible grade – in 10 subjects. 35 students achieved grades 8 and 9 across the board.
