Whitby school receives book donation from North Yorkshire developer
Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated a range of books to East Whitby Academy.
The housebuilder has donated a range of books spanning all age groups to East Whitby Academy, less than a mile from its Chaloners Green and Abbey View developments.
To combat the declining rate of reading enjoyment in the UK, the National Literacy Trust has launched its biggest campaign in 2026 to help more children rediscover the joy of reading. The campaign, in collaboration with the Department for Education, is asking the nation to ‘Go All In’ on their passions and interested and explore how reading can further unlock their current interests.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation to the East Whitby Academy library will help to expand the range of books they offer, and support the school in offering new and up to date titles.
Simon Smith, Headteacher at East Whitby Academy, said: “Reading sits at the very heart of everything we do in our school. Nurturing a love of books, and helping children discover stories that truly excite them, is one of the most important ways we grow confident, joyful readers.
“The new books have already sparked so much enthusiasm, with children eager to explore, imagine, and dive into their next great read.
“We are incredibly grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for its generous support and for helping to inspire our young readers. Its contribution is making a real difference in our school community.”
Located on the North Yorkshire coast, Abbey View and Chaloners Green have a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes on offer. These new, sustainable, energy-efficient homes offer a desirable opportunity for prospective buyers to make the vibrant community of Whitby their home.
Steven Ball, Sales Director of Barratt and David Wilson Homes North East, said: “We are happy to be able to donate to East Whitby Academy’s library. Reading is an essential part of education, but also helps children to develop empathy, explore new ideas and engage their creativity.”
“As a homebuilder, we are committed to enriching the communities in which we build. We hope the pupils of East Whitby Academy enjoy the books and that they are a good resource for years to come.”
