Shop front, York Community Stadium, before name unveiling

York Against Cancer gift shops launch new name!

The York Against Cancer gift shops at York Community Stadium and York Hospital have unveiled a brand new name – ‘The Hope Emporium’, along with a striking new look at York Community Stadium.

Jill Hutchinson, Retail Manager at York Against Cancer, said: “When we were looking at the identity of the shop, we wanted a name that represented much more than simply a place where we sell beautiful things. The word “Hope” felt absolutely right, because behind everything we do is the reason the shop exists — to raise money for York Against Cancer and to make a difference to people whose lives have been affected by cancer. Hope means so many things: strength, positivity, looking forward, believing that things can get better and knowing that you are not alone. “And then we have “Emporium.” An emporium is a place where you discover lots of wonderful things — and that is exactly what we want our shop to feel like. We don’t want people to walk through the door thinking, “I’m going into a charity shop.” We want them to think: “I’m going somewhere special. Somewhere I can find something beautiful, something different, or the perfect gift. “And the really important part is that every purchase has a purpose. When someone buys something from ‘The Hope Emporium’, they aren’t simply buying a gift, a treat for themselves or something lovely for their home. They are also helping to create hope for someone affected by cancer. “So, for us, ‘The Hope Emporium’ isn’t just a name. It tells people what we are about. Beautiful things. Meaningful purchases. And, most importantly, hope.”

Andy Knowles, CEO of York Against Cancer, said: “We’re delighted to introduce ‘The Hope Emporium’, the official gift shop of York Against Cancer. The name means a great deal to us because it came from our own staff and volunteers; the people who know this charity from the inside. We chose it deliberately: hope is what gives those affected by cancer strength and comfort, and that is exactly what this shop is for. With a welcoming and more visible new shopfront at our stadium site, and a fresh look at our hospital shop,The Hope Emporium, will continue to offer only new, quality gifts, and we hope everyone who visits walks away feeling like they have contributed to sharing hope.”
