Alcohol and substance abuse in the workplace – Recognition, prevention, and remedies.
In 2024, one in 10 business owners say they’ve had an employee show up for work under the influence of drug or alcohol and figures show that 40% of all workplace accidents are related to substance misuse.
The Howarth Foundation in conjunction with Howarths HR and Employment Law is hosting a series of workshops aimed at addressing the growing problem of alcoholism and substance addiction at work.
WEDNESDAY 1st MAY 2024 here at Howarths HQ.
You’ll hear from –
Carl Hedley – a previously homeless and recovering addict who will share his experiences of rough street sleeping and his personal abuse of alcoholism in the workplace. Carl will be giving a brutally honest account of what it’s like going to work as an active alcoholic and how he was able to get through a day without being discovered by his employer.
Charlotte Geesin LL.B (Hons) LL.M – Legal & Compliance Director, Visiting Lecturer for the University of Law, and Employment Judge for the RFL’s independent employment tribunal, will address the legalities of both parties, but essentially the employer’s liability, responsibilities, the authority to drugs test and the right to fairly dismiss.
