Music for Marie Curie – Hot Aire Concert Band
Shipley based ‘Hot Aire Symphonic Concert Band’ present two fundraising concerts for Marie Curie Hospice Bradford.
These two amazing concerts hosted by ‘Hot Aire Concert Band’ to be performed at ‘The Bingley Arts Centre’ came about from passing away in February 2023 of the husband of a member of the Hot Aire Band.
“Thanks to the dedicated Marie Curie staff Andrew had the very best care anyone could hope for at the end of his life.” Said Pam his wife. “Although he was only in the hospice for four days, from the moment he was admitted, staff ensured he was comfortable and not in pain, and what was the most surreal time of our lives, the kind and caring Marie Curie staff made it just a little more bearable for us.
It’s not just the patient the hospice care for it’s the family as well. A bed was provided alongside my husbands for me to sleep next to him. A family room was provided for our children to stay overnight and endless trollies full of tea, coffee and biscuits were brought to us.
What’s amazing about Marie Curie is that the care and support doesn’t end there. Counselling has been a massive support for me and is available for all the family should they want it. The hospice has memory events where you can meet others who have experienced the loss of a loved one and understand your journey of grief.
All this, incredible wonderous support costs money, a lot of money. The Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford holds only a few beds for end-of-life care. We were lucky that Andy was offered a bed for what was his last few days with us, but there are so many more people out there that need the care and support we had, and that’s why I want to raise as much money as I can through these concerts.
Both concerts are to be held at the Bingley Arts Centre on Saturday, June 14th 2025. For the matinee concert, the amazing ‘Hot Aire Concert Band’, led by the dedicated and enthusiastic musical director, Stephen Bradnum BA Mus (Huddersfield) PGCT (Leeds) will entertain you with a variety of music including musicals, films pop music and special arrangements. Hot Aire play regularly at local community events in Shipley and Baildon as well as the Harrogate Spring and Autumn Flower show.
Also performing will be the wonderful recently formed ‘Airedale Flute Choir’ run by the extremely talented flute teacher Lauren Stafford BA Mus (Huddersfield) MA Mus (Cardiff), and the beautiful voices of ‘St Walburga’s RC School Choir’ Shipley, led by their enthusiastic Headteacher Liz Fearnley.
The evening concert will have another chance to listen to the fantastic Hot Aire Concert Band performing again with even more exciting and familiar pieces of music for you to sing along to. Also, in their own unique style to entertain you are the fantastic Bradford Accordion Band led by the lively and very enthusiastic musical director Anita Basic. Last summer these two bands presented a very successful concert ‘Walking on Sunshine Concert’ in Keighley in aid of Manorlands Hospice. Alongside them we have the very well-established Holroyd Brass Band based in Shipley run by Mark Sherwood, another very enthusiastic and talented musician.
