OPM’s 2026 Challenge: Bringing Comfort When It Matters Most

They have set an ambitious goal for 2026!
Raising £15,000 to fund an additional cuddle bed for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
This life-changing piece of equipment will help families share precious moments during end-of-life care.
💕How OPM have helped so far..
OPM have already sponsored a cuddle bed for Manorlands Hospice, helping families experience those vital moments of togetherness.
Recently, Chris Ellison and Susan Ellison visited Manorlands Hospice to see the impact of their support first hand. They met with:
- Sarah Bottomley – Regional Director of Healthcare Operations
- Sharon Watson – Head of Clinical Services
- Megan Houldsworth – Ward Manager
- Harriet Wood – Senior Community Fundraiser
During the visit, they saw the cuddle bed they funded in place and heard how it has already made a real difference to patients and their loved ones.
Now, they’re determined to go further; by funding a second cuddle bed so even more families can experience comfort and dignity.

💕What is a cuddle bed?
A cuddle bed is a specially adapted hospital bed that widens from a single to double bed at the touch of a button. It allows patients to be joined in bed, side by side, with their loved ones, providing physical closeness.
Beyond emotional connection, cuddle beds include advanced features such as:
- Accurate in-bed weighing for safe medication dosing
- Adjustable positioning for comfort and care
- Pressure-relieving mattress to reduce the risk of bed sores
Every detail is designed to make each moment as soothing and peaceful as possible.

A cuddle bed gives patients and their loved ones or even pets the chance to be close and share precious, peaceful moments together during end-of-life care.

However, most hospices rely heavily on charitable donations to keep these vital services running. At Manorlands, around 70% of funding comes from charitable donations. Without community support, these essential services simply couldn’t continue. Every pound raised helps provide comfort, dignity, and specialist care for families who need it most.
