Support Speakers for Schools

Speakers for Schools(*) is the UK’s largest social mobility charity and provider of work experience to young people in state-funded secondary education. At Speakers for Schools, we aim to close the opportunity gap and level the playing field for all 11-19-year-olds from state schools and colleges by providing fair access to fully funded work experience and inspirational talks that will help them to reach their full career potential. We are committed to using our influence to champion social mobility and improve diversity in the workplace.

Each year, 400,000 young people leave secondary education without undertaking any work experience. This must change. We are working tirelessly with businesses and educational institutions to ensure all young people in secondary, state-funded education have access to high-quality, engaging and ultimately impactful work experience.

One of our brand-new projects this academic year focuses on providing year 9 students across the UK with virtual work experience. We have already to delivered 4 successful pilots of our year 9 project, supporting over 2,000 students across 4 multi-academy trusts. We are now bringing this project to 600 students at a multi-academy trust in West Yorkshire,

How Can You Help?

We are looking for local employers to support this upcoming year 9 virtual work experience project in West Yorkshire, running from 24th-26th June 2025.

  • Set a project brief for students to complete across the three days

Guidance and support will be provided by Speakers for Schools both before and during the placement.

Can I do More?

Yes – employers can also support our wider work experience programme, delivering virtual or face-to-face placements to young people across the UK.
