Autism Plus expands social enterprise with new Knaresborough site

Empowering Young Adults with Autism and Learning Disabilities through Artisan Chocolate Production and Meaningful Activities

Autism Plus has opened a new site in Knaresborough, bringing together its North Yorkshire social enterprises under one roof. This new facility represents a major step forward in providing meaningful training and employment opportunities for young adults with autism and learning disabilities.

The new site is home to The Hub at Autism Plus Knaresborough, where participants can engage in a variety of meaningful activities designed to build confidence, creativity, and social skills. These activities include arts and crafts, music, media, and horticulture, all supported by an experienced team to ensure a nurturing and inclusive environment where participants can thrive.

In addition, the site features the artisan chocolate social enterprise, Park House Barns, where trainees gain hands-on experience and work placements in chocolate crafting, packaging, and administration. This provides valuable skills for future employment and practical experience in a real-world work setting.

Autism Plus’ internal Employment Support team also offers trainees guidance and support, helping them move closer to securing meaningful employment. This holistic approach ensures that individuals not only develop practical skills but also receive the support needed to confidently navigate their career paths.

Philip Bartey, Chief Executive at Autism Plus, said: “We are incredibly proud to open our new Knaresborough site. It allows us to expand our programmes and offer even more opportunities to young adults with autism and learning disabilities. This site will be a hub for skill-building and personal development, all while continuing our tradition of producing high-quality, handmade artisan Belgian chocolates.”

Autism Plus is hosting open days for the community to visit and learn more about placements available within The Hub. The Open Days are on Tuesday 12th November from 10am to 12pm and Tuesday 19th November 1pm to 3pm at Firecrest House, Lingerfield Business Park, Knaresborough.
