Leeds Mencap, a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and other complex needs in the city, has been officially selected as the charity for the term in office of the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Dan Cohen. This is set to significantly boost awareness and much-needed funds, enabling Leeds Mencap to continue supporting families across the city.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds chose Leeds Mencap to champion its outstanding work and raise funds to help the charity continue to enable those it supports to reach their full potential. Through this partnership, Leeds Mencap will further its mission of helping individuals develop their strengths, build meaningful friendships and support networks, and discover new opportunities within a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
“We are incredibly honoured and thrilled to be chosen as the Lord Mayor’s charity for 2025-2026,” said Louise Maciag, Family Services Manager at Leeds Mencap. “This partnership provides an invaluable opportunity to shine a light on the unique challenges faced by children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs, and their families. The awareness and funds raised during the Lord Mayor’s term will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of our services and making a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of families across Leeds.”
A series of key fundraising events are planned, including a Golf Day in September, a Spring Ball in March, and ‘Just One Day’, where businesses and organisations from all sectors across the city will be invited to participate in raising money and awareness for the Lord Mayor’s charity.
