Leeds apprentices kickstart careers in construction
Sustainable regeneration specialist Equans has welcomed nine new trainees into construction roles in West Yorkshire.
The new recruits have taken on titles including trainee quantity surveyor, estimator, site supervisor, and apprentice plumber and electrician.
Their work will support housing repairs, maintenance and regeneration projects carried out by Equans’s expert teams to social-rented homes across the region.
Among the new recruits is 18 year-old Tia Cromack from Middleton in Leeds, an apprentice electrician, who will work with Equans to complete repairs and maintenance work on behalf of Unity Housing.
Tia said: “I’m really excited to be starting my apprenticeship with Equans. It’s a great opportunity to learn on the job and help improve homes.
“Before joining Equans I took part in a workshop with the company which really opened my eyes to the world of construction. I’m looking forward to growing with the company and finding out more about the opportunities ahead of me.”
Kerri White, Head of Social Value at Equans, commented: “There’s lots in the news about the shortage of construction workers, so we’re pleased to be playing an important role in safeguarding trades, skills and expertise for the future.
“Our apprentices get hands-on experience alongside our experts right from the start and they can tap into a range of support from across the business. I know they’re all eager to get stuck in, and I look forward to seeing them flourish as their careers progress.”
Equans currently employs 65 apprentices and trainees in Yorkshire, helping to support a thriving future for the construction industry.
