Tadcaster Road Bridge

Upcoming works on Tadcaster Road/Copmanthorpe Link Road West

The council will soon be carrying out works to make improvements on Tadcaster Road, between the Askham Bog car park and Askham Bar Park and Ride.

This will include updates to the traffic signals at the junction of Tadcaster Road / Copmanthorpe Link Road West between 22 October and 17 November and night-time resurfacing works between Monday 17 November and early morning on Saturday 28 November.

As well as making much needed repairs to the road surface and traffic signals, these works will improve pedestrian and cycle provision by making the shared footway and cycle path wider in places.

The work will be carried out in two phases.

Phase 1

The work to improve junction signals will start on Wednesday 22 October and are expected to be completed on Monday 17 November. This will happen during weekdays between 8am and 4pm and is expected to take up to 18 days.  Works will be under temporary signals 24/7 (staffed during working hours and peak periods) and there will be a lane closure on the A64 slip road for the duration.

This follows drainage works that are already underway and will complete before this work starts.

Pedestrian/cyclist routes and access to all businesses and residential properties will be retained throughout the duration of the works as will vehicular access. Temporary controlled crossings will be provided during construction to allow pedestrians / cyclists to cross the road safely.

It will be necessary to temporarily close footways in the works area at certain times during the works, however footway diversion routes will be put in place. We request that cyclists, who are using the shared off-road cycle/pedestrian paths, take specific care through the works area due to the narrowing of the paths.

While this is happening National Highways are carrying out work in the area too. They are carrying out overnight works on the A64 slip road to Copmanthorpe on 10,11, 12 and 13 November which will require a night-time road closure.

Phase 2

Once the first phase is complete then resurfacing works will take place on weekdays at night between 8pm and 6am.

To allow the resurfacing works to be undertaken safely it will be necessary for overnight road closures to be in place on weeknights only while the work is taking place from Monday 17 November to Friday 28 November inclusive.

The resurfacing works will be carried out by Lane Rentals Services on behalf of the council. When the road is closed, the diversion will be via Tadcaster Rd and the A64, access for Copmanthorpe will be via Manor Heath and Hallcroft lane. The road will be reopened each morning if it is safe to do so, so that people will be able to use the link road during the day.

Emergency services will always be permitted through the works at all times and pedestrian, mobility aid and cyclist routes will be maintained, where possible, to allow access through the site and to properties and homes safely.

Access to the Park and Ride at Askham Bar will be available via the A1036 (from the Dringhouses side) and Sim Balk Lane.

Waste and recycling collections will be collected as normal. Please make sure that you put your bins and recycling out after 7.00pm the day before but before 7.00am on the day of your usual service.

While we are working to minimise disruption, delays are expected, so please plan ahead when making any journeys in the area during the works. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Residents and nearby businesses have already been alerted to the closures. Nearby businesses will remain open for business and access to them will be maintained.

Emergency services will always be permitted through the works at all times.
