MP for Colne Valley visits Kirklees College Engineering and Process Manufacturing centres
Friday 23 January saw Paul Davies, MP for Colne Valley, visit the Kirklees College Engineering and Process Manufacturing centres.
As part of the visit, discussions took place between Paul and Kirklees College staff, which included Kirklees College Principal & Chief Executive, Palvinder Singh, alongside the Head of Engineering, Michelle Grainger, and the Curriculum Director for Engineering, Steve Plumstead. Much of this centred around supporting vulnerable young people, social mobility, adult skills and setting students up for life.
Kirklees College Principal & Chief Executive, Palvinder Singh, said: “It was a huge privilege to welcome Paul Davies MP to Kirklees College. It was fantastic to see he shares the college’s passion for supporting young people and helping to set them up for life through skills and training. The visit was a great way to share the amazing work that Kirklees College does as an anchor organisation in our community.”
Steve Plumstead, Curriculum Director for Engineering at Kirklees College, added: “It was wonderful to host Paul Davies MP at Kirklees College and show off our excellent facilities and demonstrate our agility working with stakeholders to deliver impact in the community and wider region. Partnerships such as ours with Flannery Plant Hire and the Kirklees Council have set a new standard in collaboration by helping meet the skills need in the construction and engineering sectors. “
Paul Davies, MP for Colne Valley, was delighted with the visit saying:
“What a fantastic visit to the Kirklees College Engineering Centre. Hugely impressive and great to hear about the opportunities being provided for young people in our area to learn and train for good jobs. The Kirklees Operator Skills Hub that I visited is a real ‘first’ for Kirklees College.
“Their partnership with Flannery Plant Hire and Kirklees Council has been crucial in the setting up and running of this Skills Hub and is an exemplar when it comes to demonstrating how such partnerships can deliver real opportunities for local people.”
