Trinity Leeds puts sporting hero in the spotlight as Yorkshire Day celebrations kick off
A super-sized tribute to sporting icon Sir Kevin Sinfield has been unveiled today as Yorkshire Day celebrations kick off at Trinity Leeds.
The eye-catching image of the Leeds Rhinos legend – recently awarded a long-awaited knighthood – has gone on display under the main atrium at Trinity Leeds as the shopping centre supports his inspirational upcoming fundraising challenge.
The Super League legend – who has raised a staggering £11million for Motor Neurone Disease charities in honour of his close friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who passed away from MND in 2024 – will tackle his final fundraising challenge in September, running an ultra-marathon every day for seven days.
As part of the Yorkshire Day celebrations at Trinity Leeds, a ‘wall of support’ will give fans the chance to back Sir Kev by leaving their own messages of encouragement on rugby shirt-themed cards, running from 9am to 5pm on August 1st, between M&S and ROX.
Sir Kevin Sinfield said: “It’s a real honour for me and the charities to be a focus of Yorkshire Day at Trinity Leeds this year and to be playing my part in celebrating a city and a county which has been such a massive part of my life both on and off the pitch.
“Leeds and Yorkshire will always be incredibly special places for me, where the people have shown me amazing support through the years and where I’ve experienced so many moments that I’ll never forget.
“It’ll mean so much to once again have the backing of the people of Leeds as I set off on this latest challenge and to know they’re cheering me on all the way.”

“Sir Kevin is a Leeds legend and his dedication and determination is simply remarkable. He’s a true inspiration to so many people in Leeds, Yorkshire and beyond, so it’s only right that we honour him on Yorkshire Day.”
For his final challenge, the ‘7 in 7: The Grand Finale,’ Sir Kev and his team will run an ultra marathon every day for a week, visiting all 12 English Super League grounds on the way to the finish line at Old Trafford ahead of the Betfred Super League Grand Final.
Money raised will go to Motor Neurone Disease Association, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, MND Scotland, Leeds Hospitals Charity and The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
