Institute for Equity, University Centre celebrates 100% compliance rating in British Accreditation Council inspection

Vice Principal Janet Cash praises staff, fellows, and students as specialist UK higher education institution meets every evaluated standard across governance, teaching and student support.

I am thrilled to share that the Institute for Equity, University Centre (IEUC) has successfully completed a full inspection by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) under the Independent Higher Education (IHE) scheme, meeting 100% of the evaluated standards across every single inspection area.

When Professor Paul Miller established IEUC in July 2020, the mission was clear: build a research-led higher education institution that equips leaders to transform systems, structures, and practice around equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Operating from our headquarters in Huddersfield, we deliver specialist Level 5 to Level 7 qualifications designed for mature, employed adult professionals. Achieving full compliance across all BAC evaluation standards is a fantastic validation of our team’s hard work and dedication.

The inspection team – which evaluated our operations on-site and online on May 12–13 and 15, 2026 – highlighted key strengths across our operational and academic framework:

  • Clear Strategic Leadership: Inspectors recognised the strong educational direction and risk management provided by our Principal, Professor Paul Miller, our Board of Directors, and our senior management team, particularly noting our commitment to safeguarding academic freedom.
  • Expert Academic Team: Our academic staff, 16 Fellows, and seven Advocates-in-Residence were praised for their deep subject expertise, sector experience, and engaging online training and support methods.
  • Dedicated Student Support: The report commended our personalised pastoral support, regular progress monitoring, and 24/7 digital library access, which help working adults successfully balance higher education with their careers.
  • Active Student Voice & Quality Assurance: Inspectors were impressed by how systematically we gather and act on student feedback through initiatives like our “You Said, We Did” summaries and oversight committees.

This success reflects the strength of our entire portfolio, including our Master of Business Administration (MBA) offered in partnership with Buckinghamshire New University (BNU), our NCFE-accredited Level 7 Certificates and Diplomas, our flagship EDI fellowship © and our Level 5 professional certificates.

Benefits of BAC Accreditation

For IEUC, BAC accreditation provides a powerful platform for growth, credibility, and international reach. As an institution committed to advancing equity-focused leadership development and education, BAC’s accreditation provides the following benefits:

  • Global Recognition and Credibility: BAC is an internationally respected quality assurance body. Holding their accreditation acts as a mark of quality for international students, employers, and partners, proving your institution meets rigorous academic standards.
  • International Student Recruitment: BAC accreditation is approved by the UK Home Office, allowing accredited institutions to sponsor international students for short courses via the Standard Visitor Visa route.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Assurance: The rigorous BAC inspection process helps ensure institutions consistently meet statutory obligations and regulatory requirements, providing peace of mind to government departments and stakeholders. [
  • Framework for Continuous Improvement: BAC does not simply audit; it advises. Institutions gain access to expert feedback and tailored guidance to identify areas for growth, enhance teaching practices, and keep up to date with the latest educational best practices.
  • European and Global Alignment: BAC is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), aligns with European Standards and Guidelines (ESG), and is listed on the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR). This gives institutions strong credibility across Europe and beyond.

BAC’s quality assurance framework supports IEUC’s commitment to continuous improvement. Through expert feedback, advisory support, and structured inspection cycles, IEUC benefits from external insight that strengthens our governance, enhances our teaching practices, and ensures we remain aligned with emerging sector best practice. Being listed in the BAC directory and authorised to use the BAC quality mark also enhances IEUC’s visibility and marketing reach, reinforcing our position as a high-quality UK-based Higher Education Institution.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to staff, Fellows, partners, and above all, our amazing learners. Your engagement and passion make IEUC a unique learning community, and we look forward to continuing our work in developing leaders who drive meaningful change across their organisations.
