Top 10 subject rankings help Bradford surge up Guardian league table
The University of Bradford has closed in on the UK’s top 50 universities after climbing 18 places in the Guardian University Guide 2027.
The University is now ranked joint 51st out of 123 institutions, while a number of subjects have earned national recognition.
Bradford’s Paramedic Science programme is second nationally, while its Chemical Engineering programme is sixth in the prestigious annual guide.
Midwifery (14th), Health Professions (19th), and Mechanical Engineering (20th) are also ranked in the top 20.
‘Tremendous achievement’
Professor Gillian Murray, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford, said: “Our rise in the Guardian University Guide 2027 rankings, alongside the outstanding performance of a number of our subject areas, is a tremendous achievement and reflects the dedication and hard work of colleagues across the University.
“To be ranked second nationally for Paramedic Science and sixth for Chemical Engineering, while also seeing several other subjects recognised among the UK’s top 20, demonstrates the quality of our teaching, student experience and the real-world relevance of our programmes.
“These results highlight our commitment to providing an excellent education that enables students from all backgrounds to achieve their ambitions, develop the skills employers need and make a positive impact in their professions and communities.

The Guardian University Guide scores UK higher education institutions through eight different categories to compile its annual rankings, including National Student Survey results, career prospects, how satisfied students are with teaching and student to staff ratio.
Bradford’s other Guardian University Guide 2027 scores include:
- 91.1% for continuation, meaning it has excellent rates of first year students continuing into their second year.
- 84.5% of University of Bradford students were satisfied with the teaching they received, while 80.2% were satisfied with their assessment
- Bradford’s average teaching score was 56.5 out of 100.
- Bradford is 12th nationally for the Value Added measure, which compares students’ degree results with their entry qualifications.
Computer science & Information Systems (+48), Law (+37), Psychology (+29), Mechanical Engineering (+27), and Economics (+21) have seen the most significant gains, compared to the Guardian University Guide 2026.
Further ranking success
It is the latest ranking success for the University after it reached the Daily Mail University Guide’s UK top 30 for the first time last month, ranked joint 29th out of 128 institutions, following its third successive rise in the national rankings.

Clearing 2026 runs until 9 October, offering prospective students the chance to secure a place at University. Prospective students may include adult learners who want to return to education.
