Salko UK celebrates European expansion as it announces leadership team promotions

Mechanical and electrical engineering specialist Salko UK has promoted several leadership team members, supporting its growth as it launches its first European base with the establishment of group company Salko Spain.

The senior leadership team now comprises Chief Financial Officer Georgina Wilkinson, Group Business Development Director Steve Mason, Operations Director Sim Sharphouse, PMO Director Matt Lindon and Debbie Harman as Director of Salko Spain.

The business has achieved year-on-year growth by supporting major industrial projects across the UK. Building on a 25-year family heritage, the company aims to set the standard for mechanical and electrical support in the global energy sector through dependable performance, responsible growth, and a safe, secure, and sustainable working environment.

Established in 2000 by CEO Dean Murphy, Salko UK has developed into a multifaceted business delivering high-quality mechanical and electrical support, recruitment, and workforce services. Its continued expansion includes the recent launch of Salko Engineering Services, a dedicated electrical plant-hire depot in Balkholme, East Yorkshire.

With a record pipeline of work secured for 2027, the business is now launching its largest recruitment drive to date, seeking engineering specialists, welders, riggers, fitters, and other skilled professionals.

Based in Badalona, Barcelona, and led by Debbie Harman, the new Spanish operation forms part of Salko’s wider European growth strategy and will focus on supporting energy and engineering projects while developing strong relationships with local partners, clients and industry stakeholders.

Salko Spain will provide a comprehensive range of engineering solutions, as well as supporting clients by identifying and supplying the right talent for projects, focusing on recruiting from the local area, while providing materials, resources and specialist services.

The company’s new structure and expansion has been designed to continue the development of multiple areas of expertise and support the natural evolution of the service offering. As Britain doubles down on Net Zero goals, clearance for nuclear works and experts in steam turbines are among the expertise sought after to deliver on contracts in the next 18 months.

Dean Murphy, Founder and CEO of Salko UK, said: “For more than 25 years we’ve offered customers first-rate mechanical and electrical expertise, while staying agile to bolster our growth. This next chapter is the next step in that journey.

“Customers can rely on us for this expertise, as well as the tools and instrumentation to deliver the work and for sourcing and recruiting the best talent in the industry. By solidifying our offering, we’ll give leaders in the business the chance to develop our services and reach new customers. As well as business growth, this gives employees at all levels the opportunity to develop, whether that’s at Salko HQ or on-site.”

Commenting on the launch of Salko Spain, Director Debbie Harman added: “It has been incredibly rewarding to establish our new business in Spain. Backed by Salko’s knowledge and experience, the expansion feels like a natural fit, especially due to our previous work with European customers. We have an opportunity to capitalise on our existing relationships while operating in a market with significant potential for growth.

“I’m looking forward to spearheading the business and instilling Salko’s values within our Spanish team, creating a vibrant and rewarding place to work.”
