The Return of Burley Banksy: Leeds’ Iconic Artist Brings Back Pop Up Store to the Merrion Centre
Urban Art Returns to the Merrion Centre with city centre Burley Banksy Pop Up Studio
Leeds – November 2023 – Following the success of last year’s pop-up art studio, Leeds-based artist Andy McVeigh, known as Burley Banksy, is returning to the Merrion Centre for a second year just in time for Christmas.
The latest pop-up store, showcasing his unique urban art, will now be located in a larger space just inside the entrance to the centre from Woodhouse Lane, adjacent to NBC Cobblers and opposite the entrance to Town Centre House. Set to open just in time for the festive season, it is set to offer visitors the chance to once again experience the creative brilliance of one of Leeds’ most iconic street artists and buy some unique gifts in time for the festive season.
The new space will feature Burley Banksy’s vibrant murals, known for reflecting the spirit and stories of Leeds. Alongside the popular prints and hand-painted canvases that pay tribute to the city, including artwork of Leeds players past and present, the store will also introduce exclusive pieces available for purchase.
Building on last year’s success, Burley Banksy will be looking to bring back interactive workshops, allowing families and children to engage with his art on a personal level. These sessions will offer participants the opportunity to tap into their creativity and take home their very own Burley Banksy-inspired artwork.
Discussing the return to the Merrion Centre, Burley Banksy said:
“It’s fantastic to be back for another year. The new location offers an exciting opportunity for visitors to see my work up close and personal, while the workshops are a great way for families to get creative together. I can’t wait to meet more people, share my art, and hopefully inspire the next generation of Leeds artists!”
Katrina Townsend, Area Operations Manager for Town Centre Securities PLC, owners of the Merrion Centre, expressed her enthusiasm for the return of Burley Banksy’s pop-up:
“We are thrilled to welcome Burley Banksy back to the Merrion Centre. His work has become synonymous with Leeds, and this new location will bring a fresh, dynamic energy to the Centre. It’s another fantastic way for us to continue supporting local talent and engage our visitors with art that reflects our city’s unique culture.”
The Burley Banksy pop-up shop will be open from Wednesday 13th November initially through to Christmas Eve. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a fan of Leeds culture, or simply looking for a seasonal gift for someone special, the Merrion Centre’s latest addition is not to be missed.
