Multi-million pound deal sees Normanton-based manufacturer join UK’s largest independent SIP provider
Award-winning Normanton manufacturer SIP Build UK (SBUK Group) has been acquired by Liverpool-based SIP Building Systems Ltd (“SBS”) in a multi-million-pound deal that creates the UK’s largest independent provider of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).
The strategic acquisition brings together three of the UK’s most established SIP businesses – SBS, SIPCO, and SIP Build UK (SBUK Group), creating a larger operation with more than 50,000 sq. ft of manufacturing facilities, enhanced technical and design capability, increased production capacity and national reach.
Based in Normanton, West Yorkshire, the award-winning SIP Build UK (SBUK Group) comprises the specialist brands SIP Build UK, Frame Build UK and Clad Build UK. Together, they design, engineer, manufacture and install high-performance, thermally efficient structural timber buildings for projects across the residential, commercial and leisure sectors, as well as military infrastructure, modular buildings and temperature-controlled environments.
Established in 2004, Liverpool-based SBS has grown rapidly to become one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of SIP systems. The acquisition significantly strengthens the combined group’s manufacturing capability and creates an enhanced end-to-end offering for customers nationwide.
With the UK Government targeting the delivery of 1.5 million new homes during the current Parliament, alongside the drive towards net zero and the Future Homes Standard, demand for fast, offsite, high-performance and energy-efficient construction solutions continues to grow.
The acquisition provides a larger platform to help meet these demands by combining increased manufacturing capacity with the proven benefits of SIPs, including speed of construction, high thermal performance and the quality assurance offered through offsite manufacturing and modern methods of construction.
Peter Barr, managing director of SIP Building Systems, said: “This acquisition is an important step in the continued growth of SBS.
“Bringing SBS, SIPCO and SIP Build UK (SBUK Group) together creates a business with greater manufacturing capacity, broader technical capability and a wider range of solutions for our customers. The combined group is well placed to support projects of all sizes, from individual homes through to large-scale residential and commercial developments.
“SIP Build UK (SBUK Group) has an excellent reputation within the industry and we are excited about the opportunities that bringing our businesses together will create for customers, employees and partners. Customers, suppliers and project partners will continue to work with their existing contacts, while benefiting from the enhanced capability and resources of the wider group.”
Chris Duckworth, managing director of SIP Build UK (SBUK Group), said: “This acquisition combines two of the leading providers in the UK SIPs market, creating a business with greater control of its supply chain. I am extremely proud of the SBUK team and am sure that Peter and SBS will drive the business and market forward at pace.”
DSW Corporate Finance acted as lead buy-side adviser to SIP Building Systems throughout the transaction, while Smailes Goldie acted as lead adviser to SBUK Group, led by partner Mike Stocks, and supported by manager Nathan Lutkin.
SBUK Group’s legal advice was provided by Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP, led by partner Andrew Funnell, and supported by associate Jon Croft.
Andrew Funnell said: “It was a pleasure to advise Chris and the SBUK Group team on this important transaction. The business has built an excellent reputation from its base in West
Yorkshire and this acquisition brings together two highly complementary businesses, creating a strong platform for future growth. We wish them every success as the combined group embarks on this next stage.”
