North Yorkshire housebuilder donates to Copmanthorpe Parish Council

Leading housebuilder Barratt Homes has donated to Copmanthorpe Parish Council to support the upkeep of Copmanthorpe cemetery.

Five-star homebuilder, Barratt Homes, which is currently building at Russet Park in Copmanthorpe, has donated £300 to Copmanthorpe Parish Council. The donation is intended to go towards equipment and support for the upkeep of the cemetery nearby the development.

A spokesperson for Copmanthorpe Parish Council, said: “It is exactly 99 years since the first burial took place in Copmanthorpe Burial Ground, which was at that time managed by Copmanthorpe Burial Board. The purchase price for that grave was two pounds and ten shillings. When Parish Councils were first established in 1894, they often took over the management of these Burial Grounds, which had previously been managed by the Burial Boards which had first been established in the 1850s.

“The population of Copmanthorpe has, of course, grown a great deal since those early days. To cater to the future needs of the village for burial space, approximately 25 years ago we were able to increase the area of the Burial Ground by fifty percent, land which was consecrated by the then Bishop of Selby. The Parish Council is always mindful of the sensitive nature of this part of the village, and we strive to keep it well maintained, with regular and frequent grass cutting. And so, we are grateful to Barratt Homes for this kind donation towards this important work.”

Russet Park in Copmanthorpe is less than eight miles from the city of York. The development offers a collection of one to five bedroom homes, starting from £256,000.

Paul Hogan, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Yorkshire East, said: “We are happy to donate towards equipment and the upkeep of the local cemetery. We are committed to helping the communities in which we build to continue to thrive, and we are proud to be investing into Copmanthorpe for the benefit of its community.”

The Part Exchange scheme allows existing homeowners a guaranteed buyer to avoid the hassle of being in a property chain, allowing them to move into their new home as soon as it is ready. With Deposit Boost, the developer may contribute up to 5% of the purchase price to the buyers deposit, helping buyers to access better competitive mortgage rates.
