Over 2,000 York residents still to claim £100 Household Support Fund payment
Over 2,000 eligible residents who have been contacted directly by the council have not yet claimed their one-off £100 Household Support Fund payment this winter.
A total of 2,700 York residents have already responded to the letter sent out by City of York Council last month [September]. The payment is part of the Government’s Household Support Funding, which is allocated to local authorities to help residents with the increased cost of living, including food and utility costs.
Almost 5,000 York residents are eligible for the payment because they receive support with their council tax. The one-off payment of £100 is not a loan and does not have to be re-paid.
Details of how to claim the funding are in the original letter [sent in September] and in the reminder letter, which was been sent to residents who haven’t yet claimed their money, last week.
The application form can be completed on a computer or smartphone.
Anyone who can’t get online or use any digital device can visit their local community hub or call the council on 01904 551556, and a member of staff will be able to complete the form over the phone, on their behalf.
The closing date to claim payments is 23 November 2025.
Cllr Katie Lomas, City of York Council’s Executive Member for Finance, Performance, Major Projects, Human Rights, Equality and Inclusion, said: “I’d urge anyone who has received a letter inviting them to get their share of the Household Support Fund to make sure they claim it before the closing date on 23 November.
“The money is given to the council by the Government and is not a loan, so doesn’t need to be repaid. £100 can go a long way towards helping pay for food or utility costs over the winter months, and it’s important that we make sure that everyone gets the financial support they’re eligible for, particularly as the cost of living crisis is making things difficult for so many of us.”
