Phoenix Software is proud to announce “Race for a Reason,” a 3-day charity event taking place across Benelux this summer in support of St Leonard’s Hospice in York.
Inspired by the hit BBC TV show, Race Across the World, Phoenix “Race for a Reason” will see 30 Phoenix employees (split into 10 teams of 3), race across the Benelux region. The teams will compete to hit 16 checkpoints scattered across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Each randomly selected team will need to strategise to earn points based on the difficulty of each location – with points been converted into a time advantage at the finish line.
The event spans three days, starting on Sunday 6th July and ending on Wednesday 9th July. There will be three prizes:
- Team to finish fastest (after time deductions based on points gathered across checkpoints)
- Team to raise the most funds for St Leonard’s Hospice
- Team with the highest social engagements (posts, likes, shares, comments, retweets) across LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and Instagram)
Over £6,100 raised already!
Each team is responsible for their own fundraising, with the team who has the highest amount of money winning in that category.
Prior to the race itself, the teams have been organising a range of additional fundraising activities and social engagements to contribute to the overall pot, from a Grand National Sweepstake to cookie sales, an Easter raffle, tuck shop and even an Easter egg hunt.
Collectively the teams have already surpassed the original goal of raising £5,000 for St Leonard’s Hospice, with many more activities planned to take place before the race itself.

Supporting St Leonard’s Hospice
St Leonard’s Hospice provides care and support for terminally ill people, and people with life limiting illnesses. With approximately 27% of its funding coming from the NHS, the hospice must raise over £6 million a year to run all its crucial services, and make sure as much as possible goes directly to patient care and facilities. St Leonard’s unrivalled care is only possible thanks to the support of the public.
Quotes
“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of the public to fund our care, whether that’s in the hospice, out in the community, or in patients’ own homes. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the incredible support of businesses like Phoenix Software. Their Race for a Reason challenge is a fantastic example of how companies can make a real difference, and the funds they’ve raised over the years have had a direct impact on the care we provide. We can’t wait to follow their journey in July!”
Annie Keogh, Corporate Partnerships Development Fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice
“We launched Race for a Reason because we not only wanted to drive our charity goals and make an impact in local communities, but also make charity fun.
Teams have already started fundraising passionately and getting ready for the mission in July. We are looking forward to seeing who wins and how much money we raise for St Leonard’s Hospice and the vital work they do.”
