Salko UK awarded four-year maintenance contract for Uniper’s Enfield power station

Salko UK, a leading mechanical and electrical solutions provider, has been awarded a major contract encompassing the supply and associated on-site activities for the Once-Through Cooler (OTC) and GT Exhaust works at the Enfield Power Station located in Brimsdown, London.

The M&E specialist will also manage ongoing maintenance operations at Uniper’s Grain and Taylors Lane Power Stations over the next four years, solidifying its role as a trusted partner for Uniper.

The OTC contract and GT Exhaust maintenance aim to significantly reduce forced outage risks, improve start reliability, create a safer working environment, whilst also enhancing plant availability across the fleet.

To deliver the OTC contract, Salko UK will execute a high-priority (HP) tube bundle replacement to enhance the thermal performance, mechanical integrity and operational reliability of the power station’s high-pressure cooling system. The comprehensive repair works will include the removal of existing components, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing and commissioning.

In addition, Salko will continue to enact GT exhaust system maintenance, aiming to improve the lifetime of the GT exhaust system.

To carry out these core elements of mechanical, electrical and tooling works, Salko UK will deploy a dedicated team of specialists, ensuring the highest standards of service and expertise.

The next four years will see Salko UK embark on ten planned projects under this framework, marking the second agreement of its kind for the company.

These projects contribute to the ongoing major turbine modernisation programme in collaboration with GE Vernova at Grain Power Station, upgrading three GT26 gas turbines. This initiative follows successful implementations at Enfield Power Station, which have demonstrated increased outputs, enhanced efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and extended maintenance intervals, all contributing to lower carbon intensity generation.

Sim Sharphouse, Operations Manager at Salko UK, commented: “It’s an honour to have won another contract with Uniper. At Salko, we are committed to not just maintaining aging assets but enhancing their capabilities and reliability for the long term. This latest business milestone shows our commitment as a strategic technical partner, ensuring the reliability, availability and longevity of Uniper’s flexible generation fleet.”

In addition to its strong presence in power generation, Salko UK offers extensive mechanical and electrical expertise across various sectors, including construction and engineering, mining, welding, heating and cooling. The company has recently expanded its services with the launch of a plant hire division to meet growing market demands.
