Schofield appointed Transition Coach
Bradford Bulls are delighted to announce Jonathan Schofield has been appointed as the club’s (Player) Transition Coach.
Schofield joined the Bulls prior to the start of the 2024 season, joining initially as Academy Assistant Coach before taking to the reins as Pathways Head Coach over the last two years.
The likes of Jamie Gill and Alfie Leake have made their Super League debuts in 2026, with fellow youngsters Cam Bate and Riley Gelder also in Kurt Haggerty’s squad for 2027 – the latter signing his first professional contract earlier this week.
The appointment further strengthens the pathway to the First Team, with Schofield in his new role forming an additional part of Kurt Haggerty’s backroom staff.
Jonathan Schofield said:
“I am delighted to be moving into a role where I will be learning from and supporting Kurt and the first team as (Player) Transition Coach and I appreciate the opportunity that has been given to me. The progress our pathway system has made in recent years has been there for all to see, with the likes of Jamie Gill and Alfie Leake going on to play Super League this year and Riley Gelder signing a first-team contract this week.
“There is a clear pathway for any of our youngsters who work hard and carry themselves in the right way on and off the pitch and my role will help be a link between them and the First Team.
“This club is famous for bringing our own through and we want to continue developing our youth by giving them opportunities when they emerge, whether that is training with the First Team or getting experience out on loan in an open age environment.
“The future is bright at this club thanks to the hard work of many and I look forward to working with our youngsters and the First Team this year to continue that hard work.
Bradford Bulls Head Coach Kurt Haggerty said:
“Jonathan’s role shows how far the club has come in such a short space of time. Jonathan will come in and look after the lads who have transitioned from the Academy to First Team, help with their transition into full-time training and help facilitate any loan moves they may require to make that process easier for the players.
“We want to generate our own players, we want to show every kid that is playing rugby in Bradford that there is a pathway to be a Super League player for Bradford Bulls and this appointment is another step in right direction.”
