University nursery maintains ‘Outstanding’ status
The University Nursery has maintained its “Outstanding” status following its latest inspection by Ofsted, the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills.
The Nursery, situated on Laisteridge Lane, Bradford, was awarded “Outstanding” in all four categories:
- Quality of education
- Behaviour and attitudes
- Personal development
- Leadership and management.
The report stated: “Children at this nursery thrive in the care of the devoted, calming and nurturing staff team. Staff inspire children to become social, confident and curious learners.”
It particularly highlights the University’s “highly inclusive setting,” in which cultural experiences are weaved into learning, as well as its “exemplary” support for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), for which the Nursery has won several awards.
Nursery Manager Rochelle Smith said: “We are so proud to achieve this recognition, which is a testament to the dedication, passion and expertise of our wonderful team and management.”
The University Nursery was reviewed under the Transformational Change Programme earlier this year. Working with the University finance team, Rochelle developed a plan to make the Nursery financially sustainable for the future, ensuring it has remained open.
In an email to the parents of children at the Nursery, Rochelle wrote: “We know this year has not been without its challenges, but this outcome highlights the essential role the Nursery plays. Not only do we provide high-quality early years education and care for children in our local and wider community, but we also offer critical support to families.
“For our University students and staff, this means enabling parents to attend their studies, further their careers, or return to work following maternity and paternity leave, safe in the knowledge that their children are nurtured and thriving.”
