University of Bradford expands China offering
The University of Bradford has strengthened its international footprint after securing approval to deliver two new academic programmes in China.
The Chinese Ministry of Education has formally approved a postgraduate engineering management programme with China University of Petroleum-East China (UPC), alongside an undergraduate business and management programme at the Sino-British College in Shanghai.
Both programmes will launch in September and will be delivered through a collaborative model, with University of Bradford staff contributing to teaching in China and working alongside local academic teams.
The approvals mark a further step in the University’s global engagement strategy, building on existing partnerships and extending access to Bradford’s teaching to students studying overseas.
Wesley Hackett, Associate Director of International Recruitment and Global Partnerships, said the development reflects growing demand for UK education delivered in-country.
“We’re really pleased to have secured approval for both programmes,” he said. “They allow us to extend the reach of our teaching to students who may not study in the UK, while strengthening our partnerships with excellent established institutions in China.
“This kind of collaboration helps build our global profile and ensures more students can benefit from a Bradford education in different parts of the world.”
The programmes follow an established delivery model used across transnational education, with teaching shared between local partners and visiting Bradford academics.
Mr Hackett added that partnerships of this kind offer long-term opportunities for growth.
“This is about building sustainable international relationships,” he said. “Over time, these programmes can develop and expand, creating new opportunities for students, enhancing research and collaboration and strengthening our presence in key global markets.”
Professor Sherif El-Khamisy, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement, said: “These developments represent an important milestone in the University strategy and demonstrate the strength of our partnerships in China. By working collaboratively with leading institutions, we are extending access to Bradford education, creating new opportunities for students, and laying the foundations for deeper collaboration in research, innovation and academic exchange. Initiatives like these are central to our ambition to grow and build ambitious partnerships that deliver impact locally and globally.”
