York Talk Money fortnight
York residents can access a wealth of information and support that could save them £1000s as part of this autumn’s York Talk Money fortnight (3-16 November).
Run by City of York Council and partners across the city, including Citizens Advice, Peasholme Charity, Age UK, York Energy Advice and OCAY, the regular event aims to help people who are struggling financially by sharing information and advice, and signposting to local help and support.
York Talk Money aims to help York residents:
- Get all the help they are entitled to
- Reduce their outgoings as much as possible
- Get advice if they need assistance.
As well as regular advice drop-ins around the city, listed on www.york.gov.uk/talkmoney, there are a number of York Talk Money events over the next fortnight.
Age UK York and City of York Council’s Benefits Advice team will be on hand on Monday 3 November at St Sampsons Centre, Church St, York YO1 8BE from 11.45-2pm to help residents with any benefits queries they may have.
National Energy Advice and Yorkshire Water will be joining our Benefits Advisers and Digital Inclusion Co-ordinator at two welcoming and informative events to support families and individuals with practical advice and resources to get support and save on bills. On Friday 7 November they will be at Tang Hall Breakfast Club & Advice Hub, Tang Hall Community Centre Fifth Ave, Tang Hall, York YO31 0UG from 9.30-11am and at Foxwood Community Centre Hub, Cranfield Place YO24 3HY on the same day from 11.45 until 2pm.
Cllr Katie Lomas, the council’s Executive Member with responsibility for Financial Inclusion, said:
“The winter months can be a particularly challenging time for many of us with increased energy costs and the festive season adding extra financial pressures. I want to reassure residents that that there is information and advice available locally to make sure they’re getting all the support they’re entitled to, as well as to help manage money as well as possible.
“Getting the help you’re entitled to really can make a difference of £1000s. I’d urge anyone who’s facing financial hardship or worried about money to find out what help is available to them via our or local advice and support services, including York Talk Money Fortnight.”
General advice on how to get the help residents are entitled to, reduce their outgoings and get further support is available online at Live Well York or Benefits Calculator.
Or residents can ask at their local community centre, pick up a Worrying About Money? leaflet at Explore Libraires or call CYC customer services on 01904 551556 for local services and contact details.
